"My life is divided into before and after – before and after I became a walking quadriplegic, and before and after I became an attorney.” ** “Life is unpredictable, like breaking my neck during Marine ROTC training at Quantico. I never imagined lessons instilled by my Marine Drill Instructor in 1976 would be put to the test so quickly: Never quit, never flinch no matter the burden. Never, ever give up. His words became my mantra. They helped me survive and walk again. And they’ve helped me through many of life’s challenges. They are words to live by.” ** “Perhaps ninety-eight percent of my fellow patients at Castle point never walked again. Some were totally paralyzed. I’m the lucky one, fortunate beyond telling. My dad, a physician, said my recovery was the nearest thing to a miracle he’d ever seen. I learned one’s mind can help mend the body; that a positive attitude speeds healing.” ** |
