Paul Briggs Named 2009 Winner
Paul Briggs is the 2009 winner of the first
annual "Excellence in Writing" award presented by the Hugh Gregory
Gallagher Motivational Theatre, Inc. Briggs' two-character play,
"The Worst Super Power Ever", dramatizes an encounter between a young girl
with an extraordinary disability and her wise and compassionate school
counselor.
Briggs graduated from Washington College with
a degree in English and earned a master's degree in journalism from the
University of Maryland.
"We were gratified to receive so many moving
and well-written plays," said Motivational Theatre's founder and resident
playwright Carlton Spitzer. "Our review committee selected Paul's
play on the basis of its originality, quality of writing and relevance to
the mission of the Hugh Gregory Gallagher Motivational Theatre, Inc."
Auditions for the two-character play will be
held in late March. "The Worst Super Power Ever" will be performed
later in the year.
